Volunteers needed!

Ottawa BMX is 100% operated by volunteers and we are always in need. There are many tasks which are required to be completed both during race/practice days and on non race/practice days in order to ensure the track is in its prime racing condition each week.

If you are interested in volunteering but are not sure as to how you can help, take a moment to to visit our “Volunteer Information” page to see just how you might be able to help. Send us an email at ottawabmx@gmail.com or simply approach any one of our volunteers during a race or practice to offer your services in any capacity you can manage.

Safety First!

We are about to kick off the 2009 season with our Registration Day/Open Practice on Saturday, May 23 and our first race on Saturday, May 30, and we would like to be sure our returning members and new members are fully aware of the safety requirements for BMX Racing.

Helmets

All riders are required to bring their own helmet, no rider will be permitted on the track if he or she does not have a helmet.  Beginners are permitted to wear standard bicycle helmets, however, we do require  full face helmets for returning members as they provide additional protection around the face and jaw.

In past years we have had helmets available to loan out to new riders, unfortunately, due to inadequate storage during the winter months, these helmets have become damaged and can no longer be used.  So please, come to the track prepared with your own helmet as we do not have any we can lend out.

Clothing

The ABA requires that all riders wear long pants and long sleeved shirts, no exceptions.  Riders will not be permitted on the track if he or she does not have the appropriate clothing.  Knee and elbow pads are not a substitute for pants and sleeves.

Shoes

Riders are only permitted to wear closed shorts (running/skate shoes, etc), open sandals or excessively damaged shoes are not acceptable.

Bicycle

To ensure safety for all riders, riders must ensure that all chain guards, reflectors, stunt pegs, gyro’s, bells, and any other accessory be removed from the bike.

If you are a beginner and are using a mountain bike is being used to race in our Cruiser class, we ask that any handle bar accessories tat stick out be removed.

If you are unsure as to what is permitted and what is not permitted to be on your bicycle, please feel free to bring it with you on Saturday May 23 (or any other scheduled practice event) and one of our volunteers will glady inspect the bike for you.

If you have any questions, please contact us by ottawabmx@gmail.com.
